President Muhammadu Buhari has bowed to pressure on wednesday by suspending the establishment of Ruga accross the coutry.
The President suspended the scheme after consultations with governors representing the six geopolitical Zones of the country .
A Presidential source said:
The President was annoyed that the plan, promoted by senior officials in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and other FG officials, purports to use gazetted lands in the states for purposes of building Ruga settlements without carrying along the states, creating a wrong impression that the FG was trying to take over land belonging to states and the people in those states.
The source also revealed that an announcement would be made any time from now with detailed explanation on the way forward.
