Customs Officer shot dead in an ambush by suspected smugglers

The Customs officer identified as Yakubu Shuaibu, an Assistant Superintendent, along with one other custom officer were attacked by smugglers who laid ambush on them .

The spokesman of the Nigeria Customs Service( NCS), Federal Operation Unit (FOU), Jerry Attah, comfirmed the attack and said that Shaibu was killed and the second officer injured after the attackers opened fire on them, on their way back to the base after seizing smuggled rice .

They were on a patrol, they had made seizure of smuggled rice while taking the rice to their base, they were ambushed, he said.

The late Shuaibu was shot at Akinrun Village, Oja Odan axis in Yewa North Local Government Area and died from the injuries sustained.

Jerry Attah further said that the deceased officer has been buried according to Islamic rites, adding that no arrest has been made, but investigation is still ongoing .
