Graphic photos: 50 died,many others injured in tanker explosion in Benue

At least 50 people were burnt to death in a tanker explosion which occurred in Ahumbe village,Gwer East Local Goverment Area of Benue State, on Monday evening, July 1st.

According to reports, the tanker fully loaded with petroleum product had an accident in Ahumbe.

People around went to the scene of the accident to scoop fuel and in the process the tanker exploded, burning at least 50 people to death and injuring many others .

An eyewitness, Mr Austin Nembe said,

You know that tankers are always partitioned in drums. So, the people went to the scene of the accident to scoop fuel.

In the process of scooping fuel, there was an explosion, which resulted in several people being burnt to death.

The Gwer East information officer, Christopher Avi confirmed the accident and said over 50 people were burnt to death while many others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to different hospitals for treatment .

The DPO in Aliade also confirmed the accident and said that a fuel tanker fell on the road. The villagers ignored the warnings of the security men and went to scoop fuel. In the process, there was an explosion and many people were burnt to death.
