Kaduna police allegedly arrests man for giving out his divorced daughter’s hand in marriage

Alhaji Sani Dauda,popularly known as ASD, and two others have been arrested for allegedly giving out his daughter,Nasiba’s hand in marriage.

Dauda, former chairman of Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited (PAN), was allegedly arrested together with the judge of Magajingari Sharia court in Kaduna North local government area, Murtala Nasir who consummated the marriage held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 and Shehu Dauda, one of the sons of Alhaji Sani Dauda.

According to reports, Nasiba was previously married to one Abubakar Musa Abubakar. After living for a few years, they decided to go their separate ways.

Their marriage was annulled with a certificate of divorce in January 2018.

Abubakar allegedly vowed that Nasiba will never get to remarry. He allegedly threatened to use the police to deal with her father after he got wind of her plans to get married to a certain Abdullahi Kaluma.

Her father however went on with his plans to get his daughter remarried according to Islamic rites on November 9th.

Lawyer to the arrested men, Sani Katu, told newsmen that his clients were arrested on Monday, November 11th and are being detained at the Special Anti Robbery Squad office of the Kaduna state police command .

Narrating the incident from the SARS office after they were arrested, Murtala Nasir explained that they were arrested for conducting a new marriage between Abdulllahi Kaluma and Nasiba Sani Dauda , the daughter of Alhaji Sani Dauda after her first marriage with Abubakar Musa Abubakar from Kebbi state was officially collapsed on 5th January , 2018.

While stating unequivocally that there was no existing order restraining Nasiba or her family from conducting a new marriage after her first marriage with Abubakar failed, the Sharia court judge said;

” The marriage between Nasiba, the daughter of Alhaji Sani Dauda, the chairman of ASD motors and her former husband, Abubakar Musa Abubakar ended since January 5,2018. And since then, there was no problem, or was there any existing order restraining her or her family from conducting a new marriage.

So, on Saturday, November 9, I conducted a new marriage between Nasiba and her new husband, Abdullahi kullama.

Surprisingly, on Monday November 11, at about 4pm, I was with Alhaji Sani Dauda and many others at his compound when police operatives surrounded his compound, saying they were there to arrest us on the order of the inspector general of police, Abubakar Adamu.

The officers invited us verbally to the police command headquarters without any warrant of arrest. Later on , we transfered to the Special Anti Robbery Squad office, where we were detained allegedly on the orders of the Inspector general of police until further notice.”

Spokesperson of the Kaduna State Command, DSP Yakubu Sabo, is yet to comment on the development.
