Multiple people struck and injured by lightning at PGA tour championship in Atlanta (photos)
At least six spectators were injured after lightening struck a tree shattering the bark all the way to the bottom, at the PGA Tour Championship in Atlanta, United States on Saturday August 24.
Five men and a girl who sought shelter under the tree during a storm at East Lake Golf Club were injured.
“One strike occurred near the maintenance area, while another struck a tree near the 16th tee. Debris from that strike injured six people” the organizers said in a statement.
The five individuals were transported to area hospitals after being treated by paramedics while one was treated and released on-site. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, the statement added.
The PGA Tour Championship which got suspended for the day after the lightning strike, will resume at 8 a.m on Sunday August 25.
