“Only Federal Government workers earning less than N30,000 monthly will benefit from the minimum wage” – Dr Richard Egbule
President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the immediate payment of the national minimum wage to federal government civil servants currently earning below the minimum wage.
However, while addressing Newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja , the Executive Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission( NSIWC), Dr Richard Egbule said only federal civil servants who earn less than N30,000 monthly would benefit from the implementation.
According to Egbule , the approval takes effect from April 18, 2018 and will affect the salary of government agencies under five salary structures:
the consolidated public service salary structure (CONPSS); consolidated health salary structure (CONHESS); consolidated research and allied institutions salary structure (CONRAISS); consolidated tertiary institutions salary structure (CONTISS II) and consolidated tertiary educational institutions salary structure (CONTEDNESS).
The negotiations between the federal government of Nigeria and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) on the consequential adjustments arising from the new national minimum wage for officers who earned salaries above N30,000 per month before 18 April 2019 in the federal civil service will continue.
The outcome of such negotiations will be implemented with effect from the date an agreement is reached, Egbule said.
Egbule gave the public the assurance that the Federal Government was totally committed to the implementation of the new minimum wage as agreed with key stakeholders.

The commencement of the approved payment will be determined by the office of the Accountant-General and backdated to when the President signed the agreement.
