PDM withdraws petition against Buhari’s re-lection

The Peoples Democratic Movement has withdrawn its petition before the presidential election petition tribunal, challenging the reelection of President Buhari.

At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, the party’s presidential candidate, Haminchi Habu, through his lawyer, Aliyu Lemu told the tribunal his desire and that of his party to withdraw the petition .

No reason was given and his request was not opposed by the respondents , All Progressive Congress(APC) and Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

The tribunal chairman, Garba Mohammed granted the request and dismissed the petition .

In his ruling, he said,

we find it expedient to grant the application as prayed. It is granted and leave is given to the petitioners to withdraw the petition and as a consequence, the petition is dismissed.

The lawyers to INEC and APC in their response, commended the withdrawal and called it a move in the right direction.
