Police rescue three children from child stealing syndicate in Anambra state and reunite two with their parents

The police in Anambra State on Thursday said they rescued three children suspected to be victims of child trafficking in the state and also arrested two female suspects who run the illegal trade.

The arrest of the suspects and rescue of the children occurred at Nkpor in Idemili North Local Government Area.

Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident said the three children are all males aged between one to five years.

“Today at about 1:30 p.m., following intelligence report, detectives attached to Ogidi Division arrested two female suspects at Nkpor in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State.

“They were arrested with three kids, all males, whose ages range between one and five years respectively.

“Suspects were negotiating on how to sell the children alleged to have been stolen/trafficked from Enugu-Otu village in Anambra East LGA of Anambra State,” he said

Police also revealed that two of the children were stolen by one Ani Chisom, a female aged 28 years, from Amuri in Nkanu-East LGA of Enugu State, and Afamefuna Udodili, a 32-year-old woman from Orodo in mbaitolu LGA of Imo State.

The names of the two kids who were later reunited with their parents were given as Confidence Ejike, aged 5 years, and Blessing Ejike, aged 7 months old.

The case is under investigation and the suspects would be charged to court, according to Haruna Mohammed,
