Robert Mugabe not to be buried at National Heroes Shrine.

The family of Robert Mugabe has decided not to bury him in Mausoleum.

The former and longest serving president in the history of Zimbabwe died on the 6th Sept., 2019 at the Gleneagles hospital, Singapore, at the age of 95.

The family had previously agreed to have him buried at the Mausoleum where national heroes are usually laid to rest and the preparations for the special Mausoleum were already in progress.

This was confirmed by the spokesman of the Mugabe family, Leo Mugabe who told AFP on Friday that the body arrived at the village around 7pm local time.

It was the second time his body made its way to Kutama village in Zvimba district where Mugabe was born on 21st Feb., 1924.

The public paid their last respect to the legendary ex-president last week after it was airlifted by a military helicopter.

The mausoleum was specially built at a national heroes shrine in the capital Harare where dozens of other prominent independence war veterans are interred and this has been seen as an apparent snub of the government’s offer to bury him there by the family.

The Mugabe’s family gave no reason for the change of plans.

In a statement by Minister Ziyambi, he said that the family had initially agreed with the government’s decision to bury Mugabe at the mausoleum but on Thursday plans were changed to have him buried at Zvimba and the government agreed.

Mugabe came to power in 1980 at the end of white minority rule and led until 2017( 37 years and 7 months) when he was toppled in a military backed coup ending an iron fisted rule marked by economic crisis and political oppression.
