Rohr relies on Okoye to solve Super Eagles goalkeeper crisis

Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles coach told Sports Extra in an exclusive interview that he is looking at the direction of Fortuna Dusseldorf II goalkeeper to solve the challanges with goalkeeping in his team.

Rohr’s number one choice at the just – concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, Daniel Akpeyi, came under severe criticisms for his performance at the game, as the Eagles ended up in third-place after beating Tunisia 1-0.

The coach gave his three goalkeepers ,Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho and Ikechukwu Ezenwa , chance to play at the 2019 African Cup of Nations as he continued to seek solution to the problem in the goalkeeping department.

He recently announced his intention to include 19-year-old Okoye to his goalkeeping option .

My aim is to improve all the departments in the team. The most important ones are the goalkeeper and then the goal scorer, they are already two challenges now, we’ve been working on it for a long time now.

We knew the problem in the goalkeeping department before the AFCON, and that it could be a big problem at the AFCON.So, the bronze medal is really an achievement and we could have even gotten to the final. When you go to the history of winners of AFCON, you must be good in this position, you must be very good and I think we can be.

So, for the goalkeeper position, we have Maduka Okoye, who plays for Dusseldorf; he will be a good one (keeper), I think, he said

The 19-year-old is eligible to play for either Germany or Nigeria because of his dual citizenship.
