Serene Williams defeats Czech Barbora to qualify for Wimbledon final

37-year-old Serena Williams has defeated Czech Barbora Strycova in a brutal 6-1 6-2 victory on Centre Court on Thursday to qualify for Wimbledon final .

Speaking after the match , the mother of one, who at 37 is the oldest woman to reach a Grand Slam final in the professional era, said,

It’s really just about going out there and giving my best effort, no matter what. No matter what I do, I will always have a great career.

It’s good, especially after my year. It definitely feels good to be back in the final.

I just needed some matches. I know I’m improving and I just needed to feel good and then I can do what I do best which is play tennis.

I love what I do, I wake up every morning and I get to be fit and play sport and play in front of crowds like here at Wimbledon – not everyone can do that.

I love what I do, I’m still pretty good at what I do and it’s always an amazing experience.

On Saturday, Serene will take on No. 7-seeded Simona Halep of Romania.

I respect a lot what she has done and what she’s doing. But now I feel stronger, mentally, facing her. We will see what is going to happen. It’s just a big challenge for me, Halep said .
