Sports: Zimbawe squad threatens to withdraw from the tournament

The players and Zimbabwe Football Association(ZIFA) are threatening to withdraw from the ongoing 2019 African Cup of Nations.

According to Local Media, ZIFA and the players had a meeting on Thursday concerning monies owed to the players but no agreement was reached, as ZIFA offered to pay $5,500 out of the $12,500 they are being owed.

The players reportedly threatened to quit the tournament if their full amount are not paid.

Infact both parties threatened to withdraw from the tournament before Sunday’s match with Democratic Republic of Congo.

Some of the players told officials they are ready to go home if the issues regarding their unpaid wages are not settled .

According to Zimbabwe’s Herald newspaper one of the players said:

We were called in and told of the developments about the possible withdrawal from the tournament and we told them (ZIFA officials) that we were ready to go home because we believe they haven’t fulfilled our contracts.
