Survivor of Brooklyn block party shooting that killed 1 and wounded many others says she was saved by her bra

A Queensboro college student identified as Deniesa Murdaugh escaped death with little more than a scratch because her bra stopped a bullet.

Murdaugh alongside 11 others were shot at the Brookyn Block Party shooting which occured around 11p.m on Saturday July 27.

One person was killed while others were injured .

We were on the basketball court near Hegeman and Christopher Aves. when the mayhem erupted. When we turned back around to run, I heard two shots go off and then I was hit in my back.

I was just told to run and I just ran, I wasn’t trying to see nothing, she said.

I couldn’t breathe. Everybody was surrounding me. My heart was racing. I was fainting, in and out of it. I couldn’t stand up.

I was too scared to walk back out the entrance without the cops coming. I was scared. A lot of people were running. There was a lot of blood on the floor, she added.

Thickness of Murdaugh’s brassiere saved her from being killed .

They said basically my bra saved me. If my bra wasn’t there, it would’ve went further into the skin,21-year-old Murdaugh told newsmen.

Mayor de Blasio said at a press conference at the scene of the shooting:

We’re here because something happened that shouldn’t have happened.

What happened last night interrupted an event, the Old Timers’ event, that had been held successfully and peacefully for decades, interrupted a moment that up until that time had been an example of everything good about the Brownsville community.

He added,

I want to make really clear this tragedy does not define Brownsville, does not define the people of Brownsville, does not define what is happening on the ground in a community that has worked so hard and come so far.

Murdaugh’s mom, Odessa Watson , overjoyed that her daughter was saved said :

The thickness of the bra line, the bullet was caught there so when the EMS unsnapped her bra, the bullet fell off, It was pretty much a graze of the skin.

Police have made no arrests and are asking the public’s help in identifying and locating the shooters.
