Termites consumed my school certificate – CJN Tanko

The new head of Nigeria’s judiciary, Tanko Muhammadu in an affidavit which he submitted to the Senate, stated that termites devoured his primary school certifcate .

Mr Tanko said termites invaded his home in Bauchi state in 1998 and destroyed his documents beyond recovery .

“No portion of the certificate was salvaged”, Mr Tanko said .

Tanko Muhammad swore the affidavit on February 13, 2002 while he was a judge at the Court of Appeal, Jos .

He became a Supreme Court judge in 2007.

He was nominated as the chief justice by President Buhari after Walter Onnoghen was removed .

Mr Tanko was accused of altering his date of birth by three years from December 31, 1950 to December 31, 1953, after his nomination.

He denied the allegations and on May 31,2019, a federal judge ruled that the complainant, an Abuja-based lawyer, had no rights to file the lawsuit .

The lawyer was scolded for filing the case to tarnish the image of Mr Tanko and a fine of N10million was imposed on him.
