You’re too old to continue creating mischief and too small to diminish me – Peter Obi tells Chris Ngige

The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2019 Presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, has reacted to Dr. Chris Ngige’s statement of being ashamed of the quality of roads constructed by his successors.

Peter Obi, in a statement made available to newsmen by his media aide, Valentine Obienyem, told the Minister of Labour to focus his energy on making Nigeria work rather than engaging in mischief.

Wondering why Ngige loves attacking Obi even when he hardly make any bad comment against him, Obienyem stated that Ngige’s achievement as the governor of Anambra State was too little to erase Obi’s achievements and reputation.

He said, “What is most condemnable in Ngige’s attacks are the lies he tells just to bring Obi down. How could he mention roads such as Abatete-Nteje-Aguleri-Otuocha road and Igboukwu-Ezenifite-Umunze, Iseeke roads and deliberately forgot that Obi did greater portions of those roads?”

“Over 90 per cent of the roads, Ngige mentioned he built were done in his Local Government Area.”

Acccording to Obienyem, though Mr Obi used local contractors to build roads in line with his policy of supporting his people, just like he supported Innoson and other industrialists, major road contracts in the state were done by expatriates.

“Knowing the importance of road maintenance, shortly before he left, Obi set up the Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency with full compliments of brand new equipment.

“He also left over N4bn in the Ministry of Works for road maintenance before he handed over,” he said.

Obienyem advised Ngige to stop comparing his Government with that of Obi because he achieved little or nothing in his 33-month reign as governor of the state before a Court of Appeal, Enugu Division nullified his election in 2006.

“Where will the comparison start? Is it health, where Ngige did nothing? Is it education, where Ngige did nothing? is it commerce and industry, where Ngige did nothing? is it the provision of infrastructure, where all he did was to cause the burning down of the state? Is it our relationship with donor agencies? Where?” Obienyem asked.
